UKCA Marking for Ex Equipment

UKEX Certification

Recently, changes came into force for manufacturers placing products on the United Kingdom (U.K.) market, as the U.K. left the European Union (EU). As of January 1, 2021, a new conformity assessment marking scheme — called UK Conformity Assessed (UKCA) marking — was launched in place of the CE mark.

From January 1, 2021, through December 31, 2022, manufacturers can use either UKCA marking or CE marking to show that products meet legislative requirements. More information can be found on the UK Government's page on UKCA marking .
Beginning on January 1, 2023, UKCA marking will be mandatory for manufacturers that place equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres or hazardous locations on the market in the U.K. Northern Ireland, along with the entire European Economic Area, continues to recognize CE marking, including those from DEKRA Certification BV (0344) and DEKRA Testing and Certification GmbH (0158).
DEKRA Certification U.K. Ltd is a U.K. Approved Body (8505) for equipment intended to be used in potentially explosive atmospheres. This designation enables DEKRA to evaluate and certify products to the UKEX requirements.
Across the DEKRA network, we work cooperatively to minimize the additional activities required for UKCA marking where our customers already have CE (ATEX) marking. Where possible, we perform an abridged UKCA assessment using existing CE reports and combine activities to maintain certificates with your existing CE marking schedule. The review process requires the full technical documentation package and any notified body reports that may facilitate the review process.
Existing customers are encouraged to apply for UKCA certification via their current project manager or by using the contact form below. If you have CE marking with another EU Notified Body or would like to apply for a new certification, DEKRA is able support your UKCA certification needs.
