The European Union (EU) Regulation No. 1907/2006 (REACH – Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals) requires the registration, evaluation, and authorization of all hazardous chemical substances that are produced within the EU or imported into the EU in volumes above one ton per annum. While the EU’s CLP (Classification, Labeling, and Packaging) regulation (EEC/1272/2008) governs the classification, labelling and packaging of chemical substances and mixtures, both REACH and CLP require the compilation and submission of a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) which requires physio-chemical data for compliance and risk evaluation. Once a registrant has completed the SDS and registration dossier, they submit the documents to the European Chemical Agency, ECHA.
