Challenging Yourself and Others

Challenging Yourself and Others

Why is challenging necessary? Challenging means stimulating innovations and creativity as well as encouraging others to question assumptions to approach old situations in new ways. If you recognize a need for change, thinking about doing things differently is first step to get there.
Likewise, in the safety world, we think of challenging as helping people recognize paradigms about how things are done and to think creatively about how to do things differently. In other words, your thoughts and your actions can influence the thoughts and actions of others.
By challenging paradigms in a way that is safe, productive, and most importantly, transformative, leadership can create a new safety culture that protects workers and encourages workers to protect one another. That’s how true change happens.
The white paper, “Challenging Yourself and Others: A Key Transformational Skill,” explores:
  • Why challenging is necessary for transformational change.
  • The six key concepts of challenging in safety.
  • What leadership can do right now to challenge paradigms in their organization.
  • Why leaders who challenge build respect and strengthen relationships.
  • Why challenging is not criticism but can push organization to do better.
