DEKRA Award 2021 celebrates solutions in four different categories

Wanted: Smart ideas for improved safety

Aug 20, 2021

In 2021, DEKRA will once more be presenting the DEKRA Award. Following an enforced break last year due to the pandemic, DEKRA will return to its celebration of innovative and sustainable solutions for improving safety in four categories: On the road, At work, At home and Startups. Applications will be open to companies and organizations until September 13, 2021.

  • DEKRA to crown new “Safety Champions” again following pandemic-enforced break
  • Winners to be decided by all-star jury and online voting system
  • Application deadline for companies and organizations: September 13, 2021
“The DEKRA Award is our way of contributing toward sustainable safety in business and society. Good ideas deserve special attention,” said Stefan Kölbl, Chairman of the DEKRA e.V. and DEKRA SE Management Boards, following a Covid-induced break in the award cycle last year. “Every year, the DEKRA Award participants amaze us with innovations that will ensure lasting safety and trust. The DEKRA Award inspires, gives impulses and encourages investment in safety-related issues of tomorrow.”
For many years, DEKRA has been declaring its “Safety Champions” in partnership with WirtschaftsWoche, Germany’s leading business magazine. Companies and organizations have applied with outstanding projects and processes in three core categories: Safety on the road, safety at work and safety at home, with the best practice philosophy having priority. In the additional “Startups” category, which was introduced in 2019, young entrepreneurs can now apply with pioneering ideas and concepts for increased safety. The focus here is on the potentials and benefits that could arise from the idea.
Companies and organizations still have until September 13, 2021, to apply for this year’s DEKRA Award. The nominees will be selected by an expert panel, while the winners are traditionally decided by the all-star jury. The winners of the Startups category will be decided by an online voting system from a choice of three finalists nominated by the jury. Instead of a live ceremony, this year’s nominees and winners will be officially announced and awarded in an online social media campaign.
The jury for the DEKRA Award 2021 will be:
  • Dr. Annette Niederfranke, Director of the International Labour Organization (ILO)
  • Beat Balzli, Editor-in-Chief of WirtschaftsWoche
  • Carlos Bhola, Managing Partner of Celsius Capital
  • Boris Böhme, Head of Division at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, Product and Plant Safety Department
  • Dr. Raimund Klinkner, Managing Partner of the INSTITUTE FOR MANUFACTURING EXCELLENCE
  • Stefan Kölbl, Chairman of the DEKRA e.V. and DEKRA SE Management Boards.
The DEKRA Safety Champions for 2019 were: On the road – Bosch eBike Systems; At work – Linde Material Handling; and At home – GWS Gesellschaft für Siedlungs- und Wohnungsbau Baden-Württemberg. The 2019 winner in the Startups category was Serinus.
