“It is personally very rewarding to see our clients achieve safety success”

As Vice President at DEKRA, James Grant supports many of DEKRA’s largest clients, including those in the public sector. James’ 27 years of operational and safety experience with hundreds of clients provides the insight to understand client challenges and design effective solutions. Initiatives led by James have resulted in the development of safety strategies, as well as the achievement of zero-injury cultures at multi-national organizations. He implements solutions to enhance culture and safety performance including DEKRA’s culture change initiative, Leading with Safety®; its leadership development process, the SafeAlign® system; and BAPP® technology.

Among some notable successes with government agencies are safety-driven culture change initiatives for the U.S. Marine Corps, the Federal Aviation Administration, the Federal Railroad Administration, and Amtrak. The railroad initiatives decreased injuries by more than 40 percent, derailments by 38 percent, de-certifications by 70 percent, and lost workdays by 40 percent.

James has assisted many large utilities over the years including PG&E, Duke Energy and First Energy. His leadership included the support of a utility industry study group for the prevention of serious injuries and fatalities.

James also has extensive experience in the transportation sector supporting BNSF, CSX, United Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, and YRCW.

The initiatives James has led have transformed cultures and resulted in significant reduction of injuries as well as improved labor-management relations by uniting and aligning personnel through common safety vision and actions.

Prior to joining DEKRA, James was an operations manager with one of the world’s largest chemical companies. As the management safety sponsor, James helped the operation achieve over five consecutive years without an OSHA recordable injury, resulting in the site being named the corporation’s safest location globally.

James earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Virginia Tech.
