DTM to Return to Lausitzring in 2018

Dec 18, 2017

The motor sports highlight of the year is staying in Lausitz. The German Touring Car Championship (DTM) will be held at the Lausitzring race track on Pentecost weekend (May 19 and 20, 2018). The race calendar for the new season was published today. “I am delighted that the DTM will still be coming to Lausitzring even after the race track has been sold,” said Gerhard Berger, Chairman of DTM. “Together with the new owner DEKRA, our DTM partner of many years, we have been able to ensure that our fans in eastern Germany as well can still experience this spectacular touring car series.”

DEKRA has been a partner to DTM for more than 25 years and, on behalf of Deutscher Motorsport Bund (DMSB), is responsible for handling all technical acceptance inspections. DEKRA, the leading international expert organization, acquired the Lausitzring race track with effect from November 1, 2017, and, together with the neighboring DEKRA Technology Center (DTC), is turning it into Europe’s biggest testing and trial center for automated and connected driving not affiliated with any particular manufacturer.
“We have always made the case that motor sports are close to our hearts, and that we will continue to open up Lausitzring as a race track if the framework conditions are right,” said Volker Noeske, Head of the DTC. “We are thrilled that we can continue to support the organizer ITR, and together we intend to make this race weekend a successful event.”
