DEKRA continues the expansion of its Wi-Fi Alliance® accredited certification testing portfolio

DEKRA recognized as official certification laboratory for newest Wi-Fi 6 technology

1. Oct 2019

DEKRA's Wi-Fi® Authorized Test Labs (ATLs) in Málaga, Spain, and Shenzhen, China, have just been qualified by Wi-Fi Alliance® to perform certification testing according to the newest certification program named Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6™, which entails higher data rates, greater network capacity, better power efficiency and performance.

  • Full commitment with latest generation of wireless connectivity technologies
  • Supporting customers worldwide to meet growing performance demands to every Wi-Fi® device in different market and applications
  • DEKRA keeps its full coverage of Wi-Fi Alliance® certification programs

Following the recent launch of Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6™ program by Wi-Fi Alliance, DEKRA proudly announces that its accredited Wi-Fi Alliance laboratories have been qualified by Wi-Fi Alliance to perform the program, based on the IEEE 802.11ax standard.

DEKRA can now support manufacturers implementing the latest generation of wireless connectivity technology, Wi-Fi 6, on their products by requesting the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 test plan, as well as any other Wi-Fi Alliance certification programs. In fact, DEKRA is the sole laboratory in Europe that covers the certification programs of the whole consortium.

Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 devices will provide solid and reliable capabilities to ensure the future connectivity requirements in terms of data rates, network capacity, power efficiency and performance in remote or congested environments; including also home and small office environments.

This technology has been designed to optimize the transmission frequencies of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. The main new features are MU-MIMO and OFDMA, enabling more devices to simultaneously operate on the same Wi-Fi channel, improving efficiency, latency times and data throughput.

In addition, it is expected that users experience up to four times the capacity and the data throughput that could be achieved with older wireless network standards. In optimal conditions, this could mean a throughput of 9 to 10 gigabits per second.

“We are excited to continue expanding the scope of our Wi-Fi Alliance laboratory to support our customers immersing themselves in the search for a response to the world’s growing demand for Wi-Fi technology and connectivity. It is in our DNA to evaluate future wireless technologies for helping several industries: automotive, consumer, health, industrial and medical” says Alejandro Torrecilla, Telecom Laboratory Director of DEKRA Testing and Certification, S.A.U.

“Wi-Fi 6 is a significant step in Wi-Fi’s technology evolution, delivering significant improvements in connectivity, including in high density locations and IoT environments”, said Edgar Figueroa, President and CEO of Wi-Fi Alliance. “We are expecting the number of Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 devices and applications to see progressive growth in the coming months. We are delighted that DEKRA offers certification services to Wi-Fi Alliance members.”
