Expert Organization at High-Level UN Conference in Geneva
DEKRA Expertise Sought By Decision Makers
Transport ministers, state secretaries and ambassadors from 56 countries have come together today in Geneva for the annual meeting of the Inland Transport Committee (ITC), the highest decision-making body of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). As part of the conference, the internationally active expert organization DEKRA will inform participants about important road safety topics.

For example, the DEKRA Academy truck driving simulator and more is present at the conference venue in Geneva. Here, the high-level decision-makers can discover for themselves the complex and critical situations professional truck drivers can find themselves in during their everyday work on the roads – and how they can be prepared for this as well as possible in their training.
“Particularly in matters concerning people and their interaction with technology, many important regulations are today decided on at the UN level – and this will be the case all the more in the future,” explains Clemens Klinke, Member of the DEKRA Management Board. “That is why it is all the more important to us that we can contribute our extensive experience in working for road safety – as we do at many other levels – in direct contact with high-profile decision makers.”
For this reason, the work of DEKRA representatives includes contributions to UNECE working groups on vehicle safety on behalf of the international vehicle testing association CITA. “In our view, periodic vehicle inspections remain an essential component of road safety. Modern vehicles’ safety systems are being developed further and further, but they can only have their effect for road safety if they work reliably for the vehicle’s entire service life,” says Nicolas Bouvier, Executive Vice President of Vehicle Inspection at DEKRA.
DEKRA has been working for road safety for over 90 years. The expert organization was one of the first signatories of the European Road Safety Charter and is just as unwavering in its support of the EU’s action program to once more halve the number of deaths caused by road accidents by 2020. In national and international bodies, DEKRA’s experts are highly valued as partners in dialog. The DEKRA Road Safety Report, published every year, regularly provides specific suggestions for improving road safety for a particular topic. The 2018 report dealt with the transport of goods. Experts are currently working on the 2019 DEKRA Road Safety Report on the topic of children on the roads.
